Project ECHO NI Participant Registration
Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (“RQIA”)
When the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (“RQIA”) collect information from individuals either online or manually this is likely to be personal data within the meaning of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“UK GDPR”). RQIA will be the data controller under UK GDPR and will follow the principles set out within Article 5. This policy deals with the rights of individuals in relation to personal data under the UK GDPR as well as general approaches to, and standards of safeguarding privacy adopted by RQIA.
The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority will record meetings, which include audio and video, with the intention of publishing content online for the use of training resources and for publicity. Participation is entirely voluntary and individuals can leave an ECHO session at any time if they do not wish to be recorded.

Project ECHO
Project ECHO has been developed and is owned by the Regents of the University of New Mexico (“UNM”), the rights to which have been assigned or licensed to the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center ("UNMHSC"). More about Project ECHO can be found on the following website: https://echo.unm.edu/
Through Project ECHO, RQIA will apply the ECHO methodology to establish communities of practice that facilitate the dissemination of knowledge, promote evidence-based best practice, and enable peer-to-peer support among health and social care professionals across Northern Ireland, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
How will my data be processed?
We will only use your personal information when the law allows us to. When you register to Project ECHO we are using your data to deliver the Project ECHO service, and other activities to the successful delivery of Project ECHO including:
- To give you certificates of attendance
- To understand the growth and impact of Project ECHO
- To contact you with regards to important information about Project ECHO
- To contact you to inform you of upcoming ECHO sessions
- And other Project ECHO activities that may arise from time to time.
Where and why will my data be processed?
Your data will be securely stored within the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority for the purposes outlined below:
- To continue to meet our legal obligations.
- Performing pseudonymisation on personal data sets prior to analysis
- For all Project ECHO sessions RQIA will produce analysed and aggregated statistical data for reporting to funding and governmental entities. This will not be personal data.
- Use analysed and aggregated data for research related activities to the ECHO movement within Northern Ireland, Ireland, UK. Project ECHO is hosted in the UK, however, the video content is stored externally on the Vimeo platform.
- Using data quality assurance in relation to decision making related to new initiatives.
- For Project ECHO promotional materials.
We will never sell or swap your data and we will keep it safe and secure in accordance with the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority’s privacy policy.

If you would like to withdraw from an ECHO network or prefer us not to contact you please email projectecho@rqia.org.uk
RQIA will remove your registration and delete your data.
